The Library Trustees, Lower Level Renovation Committee, Friends of the Baker Free Library, and Baker Free Library Foundation have been working diligently to move the Lower Level Renovation forward. Here’s a brief list of what we have accomplished over the past three months:
- The Foundation 501(c)3 documents have been submitted to the IRS and are pending approval. In the meantime, the Foundation board and the Friends of the Baker Free Library Board have signed a fiscal agent agreement that allows donations to the Lower Level Project to go through the Friends (and therefore provide the largest tax incentive to donors) until the Foundation 501(c)3 status is finalized.
- A parking feasibility study was completed, and library property abutters have been approached about selling/leasing/renting property/parking spaces in order to meet the legal parking requirements of a renovated lower level. The library trustees continue to work with those abutters on the wording of agreements related to liability and specific usage dates/times. Two of our abutters have indicated support of the project and a willingness to create a written agreement regarding additional parking for library users.
- Capital fundraising has commenced, with meetings and discussions occurring with major gift donors and those interested in naming opportunities. Announcements regarding major gifts will be publicized when pledges and agreements are finalized.
- The library trustees have submitted a warrant article for the 2014 Town Meeting to allocate $150,000 to the Library Lower Level Renovation Capital Reserve fund in FY 2014/2015.
