Phase 1 of Lower Level Renovation project begins 3/26!

The Library Trustees are pleased to announce that the Library’s Lower Level Renovation project will begin on 3/26 with Phase 1 of a two-phase renovation plan!  Phase 1 will focus on addressing accessibility issues (replacing the elevator and bringing the interior stairway up to code), as well as creating the Baker Heritage Room, Small Meeting Room, and two Group Tutoring rooms.  Those areas are part of the old 1967 basement of the Library.  Phase 2, which we hope will commence in 2016, will encompass renovating the unfinished basement areas fromt he 200 renovation, and include creating the 75-person meeting room, an informal meeting space, a cafe/kitchenette area, and a Friends book sale space. The Library Trustees will be using a combination of allocated Town monies and privately raised funds to pay for Phase 1 of the project.

With the start of Phase 1 on 3/26, there will be areas of the Library cordoned off to allow for work to be completed.  The entrance to the LIbrary will be down to one of the two main doors due to the elevator installation, and partitions will be built to enclose the interior stairway so it can be renovated. All of the construction will be completed by early May, in time for a grand unveiling and reopening of the Friend’s Book Sale on June 19th  in conjunction with the Summer Reading Kick-off.  Library staff and our construction team from Cobb Hill will do our best to keep disruption during our regular operating hours to a minimum.  As always, if you have any comments or issues surrounding your experience at the Library, please contact Lori Fisher, Library Director, at 224-7113 or by email bfldirector@comcast.net.
